Compiled & edited by Beddy LoBalbo

In this collection, you'll hear from an eclectic group of much-loved musicians, spanning the globe and the centuries.

Brian Eno and Leonard Bernstein reflect on their earliest influences; Vladimir Horowitz and Billy Joel reveal those final moments before they walk out on stage; John Lennon and Beethoven talk about how inspiration visited them unannounced in the middle of the night; Björk and Neko Case emphasize the experience and excitement of live shows; and Mozart and Tommy Ramone discuss the fine art of keeping time.

With one quote per page, each spread becomes its own exchange between two talents creating their own riffs about the blessings and curses of being a musician.

The Musician Says is an all-access backstage pass to the world of singers, songwriters, composers, and instrumentalists—all those who have a relationship with the Muse and have experienced the sacrifices, satisfactions, and frustrations it brings.

You'll hear from an eclectic group that spans centuries and genres, from Mozart to Mick Jagger, Louis Armstrong to Jay Z, Dolly Parton to Lady Gaga, and many more.
Paired like unlikely guests at a backstage party, this unruly crew riffs about the blessings and curses of the musician's life.

This collection of intriguing and provocative quotations will remind anyone who has dreamed of playing Carnegie Hall (or maybe just mastering three chords) that the creative process bridges time and place, and that music is indeed a universal language.

TRUE BLUE

On a walk one day in Croton Point Park, I was thinking about expressions using the word "blue" in it. My imagination was captured by the idea of being True Blue to someone as being a difficult and sad thing rather than a happy certainty. I had discovered the first two chords in a Jazz Book and the song sang itself to me. Very special thanks to Bianca Grooves for producing this tune. Yes, a trumpet solo. And thank you to Candace Lynn Matthews for her sultry and emotional vocal.
