Who's Beddy?
A Bronx native, born of Sicilian descent,
Maria Benedetta (Beddy) LoBalbo grew up with a
transistor radio in her ear, listening to a constant
stream of The Beatles, British Invasion bands, and
Motown. She began piano lessons at 5 years old,
loved Chopin and Scott Joplin but always wanted to play
what was on Top 40 radio.
At the critical juncture of selecting a college major,
she went with English (M.A. SUNY Stony Brook)
instead of Music and her career in songwriting, the
perfect blend of her music training and love of literature
began in earnest.
Her first gig was at Folk City in the Village. She played keyboards and sang backup in numerous bands including her own but abandoned
it to raise her daughter.
Beddy had a cottage industry, writing personalized songs for children, birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. She compiled some of her children’s songs into her first CD “Good Night, Little One,” released in 2010. She has a song published by Christmas and Holiday
Music called, “The Santa Samba.”
Beddy has always loved music and continued to write songs throughout a speechwriting career at IBM and a two-decade career in medical massage therapy. Now, at a time when many people her age are enjoying retirement, she’s revving up and recording new and “stockpiled” songs with energy and joy! “How About Now?” reflects her attitude of Why Not Now? She doesn’t let age-discrimination stop her. As part of the Baby Boom generation, she’s still rocking,
still singing, still playing and still in love with music.

TRUE BLUE
On a walk one day in Croton Point Park, I was thinking about expressions using the word "blue" in it. My imagination was captured by the idea of being True Blue to someone as being a difficult and sad thing rather than a happy certainty. I had discovered the first two chords in a Jazz Book and the song sang itself to me. Very special thanks to Bianca Grooves for producing this tune. Yes, a trumpet solo. And thank you to Candace Lynn Matthews for her sultry and emotional vocal.
